Bringing the International Quilt to You:

The usage of the International AIDS Memorial Quilt has proven to be an affective tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  It has the unique ability to be used not only as a memorial to remember those we have lost to AIDS, but serves as a tool to enhance HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and prevention.  Information about how to request a display of the International Quilt, forms, and applications can be found below in "Display Request" section.

International AIDS Prevention Initiative ("IAPI") helps organize displays of portions of the International AIDS Memorial Quilt.  These events can take place in schools, places of worship, businesses, and/or organization who are wanting a different way of discussing HIV/AIDS.  It has the unique ability to help "break the silence" for many who are afraid to bring up the subject.

IAPI has developed programs to enable it to better reach disenfranchised communities most at-risk for HIV/AIDS in New York City and throughout the USA.  Each year IAPI provides outreach programs to target these communities through conferences, fundraising activities, and displays in schools, churches and businesses.  IAPI invites local schools, churches, and organization to sister/partner with like-organizations in countries that reflect the cultures in New York City and the U.S.

Global Quilt - Int'l AIDS Memorial Quilt: In partnership with Global Quilt, a NGO based in the Netherlands, portions of the International AIDS Memorial Quilt are available for display from Quilting Projects around the world.  These international sections are owned and cared for by their respective countries, and not The NAMES Project Foundation located in the USA.

These beautiful sections help bring a global perspective to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, especially using Latin and African panels in their respective disenfranchised communities.  Displays have been designed to raise funds for participating organization and help raise greater global awareness about HIV/AIDS.

NAMES Project - USA AIDS Memorial Quilt: All requests for Quilt displays of The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt (portions sewn, maintained, and warehoused within the states) based in Atlanta, GA, need go directly through The NAMES Project's National Office. For information, click here to be redirected.

Display Request:

To request a section of the International Quilt, IAPI needs approximately 4 to 6 weeks to process requests, plus adequate time for shipping.  Forms and applications can be found below.  Deadlines for World AIDS Day is September 15th.  An honorarium of between $200 and $500 per section is required, plus the cost of shipping between your location.  Grants for schools and churches are available to cover the honorarium to help underwrite this cost.

Participating Countries:

Each country entrusts their Quilt sections to Global Quilt, and are rotated approximately twice a year.  More countries continue to come on board as the program grows.  Honoraria received help underwrite display costs, cover transport and handling expenses, and raise funds for participating countries as well as IAPI's local programming.

IAPI is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff, and donated office space in New York City and storage in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  Displays require a minimum honorarium to cover costs to transport Quilt around the world.  IAPI hopes to increase the amount of grants given to schools and churches to keep underwriting displays.
